Make money doing the work you believe in

I don't talk about my current employment that much. It seems gauche to do so. But I will. Just for you.

I am a Madam. Some call me a manager. Others call me names that are much less flattering.

But I am a Madam. That is my title.

Now what that means, in plain terms, is that I manage an establishment that provides a safe space for sex workers to provide sexual services.

The people that rent my spaces are not my employees. I can't stress that enough. They are self-employed. I am not their boss.

Let me be clear, the only money I will ever take from them is their rent. That is all.

From day one, I implemented various policies.

We subsidise a third of the costs of childcare on any given day a worker is renting our space and requires that care. This is in conjunction with the government subsidising a third. The mother will only ever have to pay a third of the costs. This is regardless of how much they earn.

We provide three hot meals a day.

We work closely with sexual health clinics to provide access to sexual health services at little or no cost.

We have implemented a security system which allows members of our security team to reach a worker in distress within seconds.

We provide subsidised access to mental health services. Again, at little or no cost.

In the next year or so, we are looking to open an establishment that will provide safe working spaces for male sex workers.

Since the implementation of these policies, we have seen our room occupancy shoot from 40% to 90% in the space of months.

Every day, someone accuses me of exploiting sex workers, despite being one myself.

Every day, people accuse me of living off immoral earnings.

Every day, people accuse me of being anti-woman.

I can sit here, and tell you with absolute certainty, that my establishment operates at a moral level that exceeds every big business.

If I can run a business that puts the welfare of those who operate within it first, and prioritises their wellbeing, so can they.

Which is exactly why they hate me.
