Today the first major crack appeared in the wall of unity surrounding President Trump’s wholly immoral war on Iran. Joe Kent, a former Army officer and the administration’s head of counter-terrorism, submitted his resignation to the president. In his letter, Kent stated that “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.” More such resignations will surely follow. I highly endorse Kent’s difficult decision and am referring to you Jason Jones’ Substack article of earlier today. As Jones points out, Trump’s war violates numerous criteria in just war theory, including that of the Catholic Church. Pray that our military officers, enlisted personnel and civilians will have the wisdom and courage to refuse to obey what are clearly immoral orders in pursuit of this unjust war.
