This small cherry was here when we moved in. I’ve never been able to confirm what it is. At first I thought it was a native pin cherry, but I think the fruit might be a bit too big and it’s just a cultivated sour. Regardless, it needs pruning. We started working on it last year, but I decided to stop before too much was removed. I was supposed to continue this year, but didn’t get to it.

Meanwhile, this plant suckers. HEAVILY. I had intended to keep just a few to replant in the orchard area, but the bed behind the plant was neglected last year and now we’re an unintentional cherry farm in progress.

I was stunned yesterday to see that most of the suckers are putting out blooms this year. It’s going to be quite a show.
