I was looking at our living room after we got this new rug yesterday and I thought it’s pretty darn Creatively eclectic! he thinks the new rug looks good on top of the old rug. I’m not so sure.🤔
I met Peter in San Francisco when he was designing this house in Western Massachusetts. his Architect father lived nearby and it was a project they began working on together Way before we met in San Francisco. Peter lived in a beautiful loft south of market in a really rough neighborhood in the mission. It had been a winery and he had renovated it over the years and I remember my first time stepping foot in it and just feeling like oh my God this place is just magical.
Over the almost 40 years that we’ve lived here in Western mass this living room has changed a lot! The one thing that is the same is Peter‘s huge painting on the wall, but otherwise most things have changed as Peter built more and more furniture and lights and bowls and all kinds of other things.
The last slide is his Christmas gift to me last year, mounting my nudes on wooden backings, which gave us the idea for the big wall of nudes that will be in my show
Feeling extremely grateful to have such a creative partner ❤️❤️❤️
Peter only went to one year of art school and then was a woodworker and then a watercolor painter - he became very well known for his large abstract watercolors. He was one of the first artists to make abstract posters, and essentially poster royalties bought this land.
He’s not much of a social media user but he’s out there if you want to see more. Peter Kitchell.
The crazy tile floor!? was put in because he couldn’t afford wood floors when he built the house. I have really disliked this floor for years because it was so busy and parts of tiles had come out. Peter recently replaced all the missing tiles and now I think it actually looks beautiful.
Anyway, that’s it for the tour of the living room
☺️
