One of the Jet rounds was especially hard. We only had a few weeks of cash left in the bank and needed to raise hundreds of millions to keep operating. To get that done required me to get into what I call “sixth gear.” Already as a founder, you’re operating in fifth gear most of the time. That’s the default mode. Sixth gear is something else, something I reserve only for those moments where I know that failure is not an option. I’ve never been chased by a wild animal, but sixth gear is what I imagine that feeling to be like – an almost fight or flight response with your adrenaline pumping and everything on the line.
