“I was reflecting last night, that during the School 4 Climate strikes, David Seymour told kids they had more important things to focus on and missing school was a serious business. The irony is we have now had two days already this year when kids have been forced to miss school BECAUSE of climate related weather events. Life is messy and complex, and biosphere breakdown even more so - there is no controlling it there is only acknowledging that it shapes us and we must reshape ourselves to meet its needs. The idea that we can neatly parcel it off into one containable sphere while telling young people to get on with what matters, is exactly what a cultural mindset that says “we can control and contain the natural world, tell it what it must do and not do” leads to.” - Dr Jess Berentson-Shaw
