Notes

Valles Caldera in New Mexico sits between the Rio Grande Rift and Jemez Lineament.

Valles Caldera formed in an eruption of magnitude 8, the largest the scale goes, in a super volcano eruption like Yellowstone. Valles Caldera is one of seven in the world, and one of three in the United States.

The volcanic field here has been active for the last 14 million years, with the most recent and especially explosive event occurring 1.2 million years ago, forming Valles Caldera.

Since then, eruptive sequences occur every 80,000-100,000 years, forming various domes and depositing volcanic material within the larger caldera.

This map is a geologic map of the various material and respective ages of eruptions within the caldera over the last 1.2 million years.
