I love when I read nonfiction purely for enjoyment (in this case Polar War by Kenneth R. Rosen) and get that feeling: there’s a story in this world.

And then, a few weeks later, without forcing it, the story just… crystallises.

Read widely. Then give your ideas time to settle.
