During my Zoology degree I learnt about the the red queen hypothesis. An evolutionary idea that a species must continuously adapt and evolve not to gain an advantage, but to simply survive against ever evolving opposing species. Run as fast as you can to stay in the same place, essentially. Seems to me that social media and this evolutionary arms race are very similar.
