I sensed this as an adolescent even though my church was not nearly as deep into purity culture as, say, fundamentalist Baptists.

I regret to admit that for a certain modest and restrained kind of Christian woman in this mileau, it takes some level of deprogramming to fully connect to your sexuality.

Purity and church culture attach so much shame to desires and natural human impulses that Christians carry the association of shame and disgust with the desire to flirt, feel chemistry, feel attracted to, feel attractive, and have sexual desire altogether, even after they are married.
