Back into Macabre Monday, and I want to talk about Terraria. Why? Honestly, because I’ve been playing it with my two brothers.

At first glance, it’s not a game that I would associate with the macabre. But this changes when my older nephew (he’s about 10), who had been watching us playing the game, commented that the game is very violent. And by that, he was referring to the blood and gore of the game when somebody/something died.

We turned off the gore after that.

But more than the blood, it’s the subtle aspects of the game. It’s not lost on me that most of the bosses we fought were summoned. And they are summoned to our home. So we basically put the residents of our little apartment town in danger. And for what? Some loot?

This was even more pronounced with the final boss of Normal Mode: The Wall of Flesh. How do we summon this boss, by throwing a voodoo doll of an NPC into the lava of the underworld. In other words, we had to sacrifice someone in order to summon this creature.

As an aside, my older nephew commented that this boss looks really scary. Check out the pic on the Note and see for yourself.

And when we finally defeated this boss, hard mode kicked in. This is when the world became more dangerous with werewolves now showing up during the night. All because we went down to hell and think we should loot the place, or something.

I don’t know... are we, the bad guys in Terraria? I’ll leave that for the audience to judge.
