While I absolutely still hold an integralist position as regards relationship between Church and state (and I think it is silly for anyone who believes in the Bible to think that secularism is the ideal), I’ve come to realize that a lot of discourse about “Catholic politics” is really just people taking their own opinion, finding a quote from a saint or pope that agrees with it, and then declaring anyone who disagrees a heretic.

While there are certain principles given to us by the Church, there are a wide range of views that can be held as conclusions given that practical syllogisms require accounting for real world data which are not part of Church teaching.

Let’s all try to have a bit more charity when speaking with one another about politics.
