You know that every single story by Deborah Eisenberg is a joy to read in a sunny room, on the grass of a city park, at a diner counter, or in bed before lights out. This is at least what I can say about Transactions in a Foreign Currency (1986), Under the 82nd Airborne (1992), All Around Atlantis (1997), and Your Duck is My Duck (2013)—all of which are collected in The Collected Stories of Deborah Eisenberg (2022). But did you know that she also wrote a play, Pastorale (1983) and it is also a joy to read, maybe especially aloud, by a group cast by Kaitlin Phillips, with the writer herself and Wallace Shawn as our audience?
