If you’re applying for fashion jobs and internships but getting rejected or ignored… just know that you are not the problem.
And you are definitely not alone.
I know how frustrating it feels. You start questioning everything — your talent, your choices, even whether you belong in this industry at all.
I’ve been there.
When I first tried to break into fashion, I truly believed I wasn’t enough.
I didn’t have a fashion degree.
I studied management engineering, which felt completely unrelated to the world I wanted to be part of.
Every job description seemed to ask for:
– fashion school graduates
– previous experience
– connections
Things I simply didn’t have.
So I thought: okay, I need to fix this.
I moved to Milan and enrolled in a Master’s in Luxury & Fashion Management, convinced that this would finally open the doors.
But it didn’t.
Even with that on my resume, I was still getting rejected.
And that’s when it hit me the hardest.
I started thinking:
Maybe I’m not talented enough.
Maybe I don’t belong here.
But instead of giving up, I made a decision that changed everything.
I stopped doing what everyone else was doing.
No more sending the same CV everywhere.
No more waiting and hoping someone would notice me.
I completely changed my strategy.
I focused on:
– standing out
– showing initiative
– doing things other candidates weren’t doing
– going beyond the basic application process
And the results? They surprised even me.
After changing my approach, I applied to just three internships.
I got three interviews.
And I got three offers.
That’s how I got my internship at Alexander McQueen in the e-commerce department — the role that became my entry into the fashion industry.
And here’s the biggest lesson I want you to take with you:
What’s blocking you is not your talent.
It’s not your background.
It’s not even your lack of experience.
It’s the way you’re applying.
Fashion knowledge matters, yes.
But what truly gets you hired is how you position yourself.
Because knowing fashion is not enough if you don’t know how to show that you’re ready for the job.
Think about fashion brands.
Many brands have beautiful products.
Sometimes even better than the ones that are selling out.
But the brands that succeed don’t just focus on design. They master marketing.
They know how to position, communicate, and sell.
And your career works the exact same way.
You can have knowledge.
You can have potential.
But if you don’t know how to present it the right way…
You get overlooked.
That’s why learning how to apply strategically is just as important — if not more — than learning fashion itself.
