With the death of Rob Reiner, we’ve lost a national treasure.
This is heartbreaking. I had the good fortune to get to know Rob Reiner in recent years. We shared a stage together, my better three-quarters and I got to meet his wife, and Rob invited me to attend his father’s memorial service (which was held virtually during Covid).
I recall messaging him while I was covering the Oath Keeper’s trial, telling him that a line from his classic movie The Princess Bride made an appearance during the trial testimony when one insurrectionist texted another, “have fun storming the castle” as they launched their attack on the U.S. Capitol.
We often messaged one another about the latest Trump outrage. Rob was a true justice warrior.
I even wrote a lighthearted piece about Rob which I posted here on Substack a few months ago.
Rob was a national treasure and a gentleman’s gentleman. An incalculable loss.
