Juventus’ 5-2 loss against Galatasaray on Tuesday night was their second-biggest defeat in Europe since they were thrashed 7-0 in Vienna by Wiener Sportklub in the preliminary round of the 1958-59 European Cup.

The Bianconeri won the first leg at home 3-1 courtesy of a Omar Sivori hat-trick, but were vanquished in Austria with Karl Skerlan opening the scoring, before Josef Hamerl scored four and Erich Hof added two late goals.

To put the defeat into context, Wiener Sportklub now play in the Regionalliga Ost, the third tier of Austrian football.
