Writing about the retro games would be even better than doing the modern stuff! 8-bit, 16-bit, 64-bit - those were the golden age for me. By the time the GameCube came around that was more my younger brother's than mine. I think we got a PS2 at one point mainly for Guitar Hero but the last computer game I bought was Vice City and the only game I've paid money for on the iPad is a rerelease of my beloved Heroes of Might and Magic III.
