Dwarves in Norse myth are not just sturdy little craftsmen with beards and hammers.
They may have begun as maggots in the corpse of Ymir. They may have held up the sky. They forged Mjolnir, brewed the Mead of Poetry, and cursed gold so thoroughly it wrecked generations.
The old stories are much stranger, and much less tidy, than the softened version most people carry around.
