Naphtha is probably not something you’ve heard of before, but it’s basically a kind of ‘light’ fuel that’s central to modern industry. Its biggest use is in petrochemical plants, where it’s ‘cracked’ to produce things like ethylene & propylene (used for plastic bottles and packaging), polyester and nylon, and various chemicals (e.g. for use in detergents).
