Greenland being part of the US sounds crazy. It’s only crazy until it happens.

In 1783, the US was about the size of Mexico. Today, it’s almost the size of Europe. This is how the country grew 4.4x in 243 years:

  • Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million in 1803.

  • Florida was purchased from Spain for $5 million in 1819.

  • Texas was annexed in 1845.

  • California was ceded by Mexico in 1848. (If California was a country now, it would have the 4th largest GDP in the world)

  • William Seward purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867 for $7.2 million. They called it Seward’s folly. Then we found gold – and later, oil. Now it’s a strategic buffer against Russia.

  • Woodrow Wilson purchased the Danish West Indies for $25 million, creating the US Virgin Islands in 1917.

And way before Trump, Andrew Johnson tried to purchase Greenland in 1868 for $5.5 million in gold. The attempt was repeated by Secretary of State James F. Byrnes for $100 million in 1946.

Sure, it’s been more than a 100 years since the US materially expanded its territory. But nothing’s off the table.
