For my money, this is the craziest policy in the U.S. today. Taxpayers fund SNAP, but 75% of those funds go towards ultra-processed foods. Then, when these poorer populations inevitably get sick and die (15 years earlier than their wealthier, healthier contemporaries), the American taxpayer again comes out of pocket to pay for their healthcare costs — 85% of which goes towards managing food-borne chronic disease
