I’m turning 44 next week…and I agree. Obviously having a pandemic overshadow the majority of my early 40’s might have had something to do with it.
The Hindu concept of 4 four stages of life (ashramas) has been an influence, even though my time as a householder will last for a while yet given how late we had kids.
For me it was also about settling into a job that I can keep long term (and since it’s with the government, much less volatile than in private practice). As such, I’ve slowly lost interest in business books and self help books.
In spite of claiming that I’ve started to avoid self help books, I would recommend Arthur Brook’s From “Strength to Strength” as well as Kieren Setiya’s “Mid-Life”.
