mutual abuse is a myth because abuse involves an imbalance of power and it’s impossible for two partners to have the same amount of power. In an abusive relationship, there is the one with the most power who controls, shames, and blames the victim and another who has less power and may react to the abuse, but that is considered self-defense and doesn’t make someone an abuser.
