If you've upgraded your Apple mobile devices to iOS 26, you might have noticed something odd. The latest UI "design flourish" they've apparently called "Dynamic Edge Pipeline" has changed one of the most iconic elements of the Apple look-and-feel: The lock screen clock; it now looks bleached out. Also, the application icons look similarly distressed, and some have ragged edges. An acid-washed UI? I suspect they might be trying to future-proof for more OLED screens and reduce the risk of burn-in, but to me, this feels less like a feature and more like a bug.
Luckily, I’ve found a partial, easy fix:
Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size
Reduce Transparency → ON
Reduce White Point → ON, set to around 50%; this stabilizes luminance so the clock renderer doesn’t keep “protecting” the panel.
Auto-Brightness → OFF
Settings → Display & Brightness
Lock either Light or Dark mode (no Automatic)
Liquid Glass → Tinted
True Tone → ON; set the brightness to whatever you find comfortable
Settings → Wallpaper
Customize the lock screen, tap the clock, choose White, then Solid. Be sure to hit Done [bad software grammar for "finished"]
I’d also suggest shutting off icon animation and unwanted video/GIF autoplay:
Settings → Accessibility → Motion
Reduce Motion → ON
Everything else → OFF
On another note, Apple’s latest attempt at multi-pane multitasking is very clunky; it feels like you’re wearing oven mitts. The best I can suggest is:
Settings → Multitasking & Gestures
Choose Windowed Apps, and get used to it. (It may take a while to discover how to resize things.)
I understand that big tech employees have mortgages and kids to put through school. But it still irks me when one has to spend so much time figuring out how to revert things to the manner to which we had become accustomed.
