The app for independent voices

ChatGPT is owned by OpenAI (Sam Altman, with Microsoft money), Perplexity is owned by Perplexity (Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, etc.), and Claude is owned by Anthropic (Amazon and Google).

I use AI a lot, but I'm also a cheapskate, so have generally used ChatGPT until I run out of space, then Perplexity, but hadn't yet used Claude.

Today, I listened to the Pivot podcast with Scott Galloway and Kara Swisher youtu.be/5bbExjL1ZAg , and they played one of the Super Bowl ads that Anthropic is airing in the wake of OpenAI announcing that they're (unsurprisingly) going to start inserting ads. The ads are brilliant at every level, down to the the pauses and the obsequious flattery:

This evening, I decided to check out Claude. So ad campaigns still work.

What if ChatGPT ends up being the MySpace of AI?

P.S. I noticed that the ".ai" domain is assigned to Anguilla (a small Caribbean British territory), the government earns money when people register or renew .ai web addresses. In 2024 that was $39 million, 20% (!) of Anguilla’s entire annual GDP.
