Henosis (Ancient Greek: ἕνωσις) is the classical term for mystical “oneness,” “union,” or “unity.” Etymologically, it derives from henóō (“to unite” or “make one”) and appears across ancient texts—from Philolaus and Archytas to Aristotle and later Neoplatonists—simply meaning combination into a single whole. In philosophical and mystical contexts, however, it names something far more profound: the soul’s return to its source, the absolute, uncaused One (τὸ Ἕν), the primordial ground of all reality.
