Twitter is back to messing with Substack writers and their links. It is throttling them in multiple ways. I wish they would stop making life harder for writers.
This is not writer-friendly behavior. Blocking links to news, analysis, and commentary does not help make Twitter a better place.
Traffic from Twitter to writers' publications has been steadily decreasing in significance even before these actions. We have been investing in ways for writers to get sustainable, direct traffic from search and new subscribers from within the Substack network. (And it’s working: more than 40% of subscriptions on the platform come directly from the Substack network.)
Regardless of what is going on with the social media platforms, writers will continue to thrive on Substack.
