This is silly! Just about everybody has a cross in their hands between the head line and the heart line ! And it is absolutely clearly true that the majority of people are not 'mystics' or 'sages'. The Saturn line (or 'fate' line) is the fourth most commonly seen of the main lines of the hands and 'bridging lines' are also extremely common. These lines connect the heart line and the head line and so, inevitably, cross the Saturn line and so make the sign of the cross.
What is important to know is that in the oldest traditions of European chiromancy going back to the C12th and C13th, we know from extant manuscript texts from that time that the X was *not* seen as a fortunate sign at all. Rather, the cross is the symbol of death - for our Lord Jesus Christ died on the Cross. In all the mediaeval and renaissance texts on palmistry, the chiromancer would look for signs of the cross for the knowing of how a man might die.
