it’s interesting to consider how Sontag identifies camp as “a sensibility that converts the serious into the frivolous”; I think tasteslop converts the frivolous into the serious. What makes it serious is both its embarrassing, leaden quality and also that it reveals a deeper issue at play here: contemporary anxiety over where cultural capital comes from, and what it might do to the existing hierarchies, aka Taste Anxiety.
