GUYS. I DID IT!! I made my first joke in Portuguese! I keep telling my Portuguese friends and neighbors, “You have no idea how funny I am. I’m a quick wit who can turn a phrase on a dime… just not in Portuguese.”

Until now.

I was getting a mammogram (and first of all, so proud that I handled that whole experience in Portuguese). And as the tech turned the knob to tighten my breast flat (iykyk), she asked, “Tudo bem? Está a sentir-se muito desconfortável?”

[Is everything okay? Are you too uncomfortable?]

I quickly replied:

“Não faz mal. Sou uma panqueca feliz.”

[No worries. I’m a happy pancake.]

… and she laughed!

Might be my proudest moment in my two years living here.
