Ooh! Interesting. I have the kind of hair, common on the Mediterranean, that starts off blonde and ends up close to black. I, like Anne of Green Gables, always wanted my hair to be black while I was growing up and my dad kept reassuring me that it would get there as his did. In the end, I got fed up with waiting and dyed it black when I was 16 and it was still a kind of mid-brown and have done so ever since. I’m not sure when it turned near-black except that I stopped getting visible roots and the faded not-quite-black of 3 month old hair colour just blended with the natural colour. Now I am 50, I have to colour it more often because I have skunk-like streaks of silver just to the right of a centre-parting and at each temple. I am wondering how long I should continue doing this, though, especially as I am losing weight which causes wrinkles to appear. Black can be very harsh on older wrinkly faces. If it was all silver, I’d just leave it silver. This was my hair-colour when I was 5. I can’t imagine myself with hair this colour again but it might work?
