I like this point (which I’m paraphrasing from Iris Murdoch): when thinking about doing good, people to think too much about big decisions, where things really matter.
But actually, at the point where you're making an important ethical decision, that decision has already been made by the kind of person you are. And the kind of person you are is made by the thousands and thousands of small decisions you make in every moment—how you pay attention, how you structure your mind every day.
If you do that properly, if you shape your mind properly moment to moment, you will see the right thing to do and do the right thing in the big situations. The real ethical work is done moment to moment, by paying attention.
