Today, February 11th, is a public holiday in Japan called "建国記念の日 (Foundation Day)". To be honest, it is not exactly clear when Japan was founded. One theory suggests it was around 700 BC. However, since the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki—considered Japan's oldest historical records—were written around 700 AD, much of what happened before that remains a mystery.
