Here’s some Carolingian Miniscule, and it’s really damn difficult to read. As long as it’s in big block Roman capitals, it’s pretty straightforward, but as soon as you get into the text, you’re having to mentally change this tall “r” for an “s”, the “u” and the “v” are the same, remember that abbreviations were common to save space and often vowels are replaced with a macron, the words often stop in the middle and carry on to the next line, and there isn’t much in the way of regular spacing between them. And the spelling of the Latin isn’t exactly the same. Even with my Vulgate open to the first page of the Epistle to the Romans it's a struggle to figure it out.
