On the occasion of Habermas’s death I am disheartened to be reminded how few of his purported readers in the Anglosphere know the correct convention regarding German umlauts: if you’re really too lazy to copy-paste an “ü” from Wikipedia, which would take no more than ten seconds, you must —must— write out the letters for which the “ü” is a typographical ligature: Juergen. The man’s name was not “Jurgen”, yet there are Anglo philosophers with an “AOS” in “German philosophy” who write on the internet as if it were. RIP.
