What if America and Europe offered every Israeli and Palestinian who wants to be safe, secure and free something like the following:

1) work permits in the West

2) a path to citizenship

3) financial assistance in moving out of the Middle East.

4) a job guarantee for some period of time.

5) social services to help with adapting to their new location.

6) a monthly cash payment for some period of time, with the only condition being that they not return to the Middle East.

Some system along these lines would make it possible for anyone in the region who wants to escape the horror show to do so.

And then…

We wash our hands of those who choose to stay and fight.

No more financial assistance from the West to Israel, Egypt or Palestine.

No more high level peace plan attempts by Western politicians.

No more security guarantees from America to any of the parties.

No more press coverage of whatever violence the parties choose to engage in.

No more sympathy for victim claims from any party to the conflict.

Those who choose to stay in the Middle East and fight to the death over a piece of desert in one of the worst neighborhoods in the world are free to do so. It’s their business. Leave the rest of us out of it. We don’t want to hear about it. You’re on your own now. Good luck.

Those who want peace should have it, and we should help them.

Those who want war should have it, and we should ignore them.
