Many people reacting to perfectly healthy foods they once tolerated think the solution is to just avoid them.
This helps reduce symptoms. It doesn't solve the problem.
I connected with someone recently who for the last several years basically couldn’t digest any animal foods well. So they were primarily relying on plant based protein (and mostly plant food in general)
On paper it sounds good since he was reacting to most animal foods. But what this included was:
Less bioavailable protein
Very high omega 6 & low omega 3
Much less iron, b vitamins, choline & other crucial nutrients for gut health
Among other problems...
Unsurprisingly, this person’s gut issues had not improved and actually slowly got worse. And the list of foods they could tolerate continued to shrink.
The problem with this approach of “I’ll just avoid the foods I don’t tolerate” as the solution is that it does nothing about the actual root issue. It just removes the trigger while the real problem rages on.
The better approach:
Avoid foods that cause reactions for the time being
Identify what the deeper issues are disrupting your ability to tolerate perfectly healthy foods
Fix the deeper issues
Reintroduce the perfectly healthy foods that you shouldn’t be reacting to
