The scene with Jane being forced to stand on the pedestal put me in mind of a scene from “Orange is the New Black” in which Blanca Flores is made to stand for many hours on a cafeteria table. Come to think of it, the “inmates” at Lowood had it harder than the prisoners in that TV series.
