Are you acquiring customers, or just renting traffic?
If 90%+ of your students come from a directory you don’t control, you don’t have a business with a moat. You have an arbitrage play.
You have no durable local SEO authority.
Your renewals are weak, because the relationship is between the student and the brand on the directory, not you.
You become extremely sensitive to price wars and policy changes you don’t control.
The directory is a tool. It is not a business model.
A real business uses ARC’s CPS, AHA’s Find-A-Class, and other directories as one channel among many.
So here’s the uncomfortable question I’ll leave you with.
Right now, what % of your student volume comes from directories you don’t own vs channels you directly control (website, GBP, email list, direct B2B)?
If that number feels scary, this is the year to change it.
