My first job was in Bristol fifteen years ago and, at the time, milk prices were at an all-time low. I was navigating the world of food and farming and, not being a cook or a grower, found it hard to find my place in it all. I knew I cared deeply about both and had no idea where it would lead me, so I just tried to document the lives of these people whose struggle had never been greater - just to feed us all and make a living.
At a protest in the South West I met this farmer (I wish I noted his name) who had the matriarch of his dairy herd immortalised on his arm.
I knew then that the finer details would figure themselves out but food, farming and those who dedicate their lives to either of them were exactly the people I wanted to share the table with.
