I would also add that there are many more supplementary ways of understanding this. For instance, I can’t really impact maximal societal outcomes, as I’m only one person, with limited impact (some people have more impact, but arguably, they got into those positions not by thinking altruistically originally). But I can impact more in my everyday life!

I create those outcomes by becoming a certain kind of person (I can control myself, but not much within even my local community). In this way, many people think virtue ethics is just watered down consequentialism, but IMO virtue ethics is the only sustainable form of consequentialism where you’re actually doing things with great impact.
