The app for independent voices

Google just did to vibe coding what Google Maps did to Garmin.

Lovable built a $400M business on features Google just shipped for free.

March 19. Google AI Studio now builds full-stack apps from a prompt.

  • Firebase, Supabase, auth — built in

  • Cloud deployment — built in

  • Free to build. You pay when you deploy.

That's not generosity.

Google Maps didn't kill Garmin to sell maps.

It killed Garmin to sell ads and location data.

The product was the cost of acquiring the user.

Same playbook:

  • Google doesn't need the builder to make money

  • They want to sell Firebase, Cloud Run, and Vertex

  • The tool is the customer acquisition cost

I've been building with Lovable. They still have real UX advantages — plan mode, dev/prod split, polished workflows.

But those are features. And features get copied.

The only moats left are distribution, data, and user trust.

Not features.
