Something that's always been near and dear to my heart, but took up special meaning from 2020 to 2022: random internet assholes who suggest and push breaking the law on weapons carry.
Especially the ones who spout such bumper sticker wisdom as: "Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six."
Listen, Scooter, before you suggest that young woman carry a weapon in violation of State and Federal laws, why don't you show us the escrow account where you've set aside $10,000 in bond money, and another $50,000 in legal fees for her?
You want to know what "Better to be judged by twelve" looks like?
It's being on bond restrictions for two years. And those restrictions aren't confined to breaking new laws, no those restrictions are anything the State gets a wild hair about. Traffic tickets; hanging around with the wrong people, or in the wrong places; not being within the County if they decide to call you in. All of these, and more, can get your bond forfeited and you back in jail, with your new bond being at least double the original one.
It's two years of a cortisol level that just says, "WAY TOO FUCKING HIGH".
It's two years of doubled diabetic meds, doubled hypertension meds, and a worried doctor.
It's two years of the State having absolute control over your life, and your future.
It's two years of not being able to get a decent job because the decent jobs all do background checks, and an open indictment — even a misdemeanor indictment — just doesn't move you to the top of the hire list.
It's thousands and thousands of dollars — twenty thousand dollars in my case — in legal fees, and lawyer's retainers.
So. Unless I see an escrow account with enough money to cover bond, legal fees, lawyer's retainer, medical co-pays, and associated costs attached to your comment — why don't you keep your suggestion to break the law behind your teeth?
Matter-of-fact, why don't you just keep your cockholster shut on the whole subject and scroll on by.
Nothing but love.
Me.
