I’ve never been in a position where any of the publications I write for want anything other than to have their pieces written in “academic” format. Maybe this is one of the issues with free media and “bloggers,” not having a “traditional” j-school trained editor to keep them true or accountable? But like you said…young writers have to learn some way. Perhaps this is one of the ways you’ll learn.
