Reading this list allows me to span decades of my own joy in reading. Alice Walker, Normal Mailer, Toni Morrison (oft cited in Substack), Ann Tyler, Annie Proulx, Anthony Doerr, Louise Erdich, Barbara Kingsolver. The also-rans are worthy of respect.

I wish my audiobook filters allowed me to find this list rapidly.
