Announcing the release of my first book, co-authored with Dr Susan Douglass, called Islam in World History, available now at the following link:

This book grew out of our co-taught Islamic History course for Legacy International Online High School. We taught this course for two years, deeply dissatisfied with existing materials available to teach from. This book is not a textbook per se, but is designed to be used as a survey of Islamic History from the time of the Companions to today. The book seeks to complicate simplistic narratives, correct secular biases, and right inconsistent methodologies that are usually applied to Islamic history. Special attention is paid to problematic ideological constructions—such as the notion of “Holy Land” that excludes the Hijaz or the debunked theories of radicalization and extremism that became prominent after 9/11—and how they have affected the telling of Islamic History.

This work is far from perfect, and we were forced to operate within certain limitations—mostly to do with space—that prevented us from covering everything we would have liked. However, we do believe that this is an important step forward for the genre.

PS. We had no say whatsoever in the price :)
