Let’s not forget that as the British Empire dissolved,the vast majority of its former territories voluntarily joined or remained in the Commonwealth of Nations, which currently boasts 56 member states, of which 55 are former British dependencies, dominions, or protectorates. Following World War II and through the 1960s decolonisation era, over 20 nations joined the group as they gained independence.
They chose to stay because of the good they got from us when we were the British Empire.
