I just finished watching episode 10 (season 1) of The dresden files. The episode ends with a poignant example of the difficulty that faces many of us who have spiritual gifting:

When Dresden is backed into a corner and finally shares with his friend about magic she responds by saying, “I can’t believe that!  I CANNOT believe that your world exists.  Because this world, the world that I live in, is scary enough as it is!”  

She then goes on to say “I can’t join you there, because my rules don’t apply in that world and I NEED my rules! I need them!”  

I've faced reactions like this more than once. It is very painful when it comes from a family member or friend... Some cannot or will not come with us if we walk the spiritual path. It can be an isolating journey.

If someone trusts you enough to open up, please remember the vulnerability and trust they are extending by doing so. Stay curious, let your respect for them extend to this area of life as well. Let the relationship hold weight, and hear them out.

Doing so might mean a great deal more to them than you would ever imagine…
