I just watched Mona Lisa is Missing, a fun and well-made documentary about the 1911 theft I wrote about in my Ferragosto post. I learned a lot of new details about the story and was reminded that the painting’s fame owes as much to an August holiday heist as to da Vinci’s brushstrokes.
