A quick note about a change coming this week: This week,The Italian Dispatch will introduce a paid subscription option.

New essays will still be published weekly. And reading and commenting on the three most recent posts will remain free. The main change is access to the full archive, which will be behind a paywall, along with a few perks for paid subscribers.

I’ve deliberated about this carefully. One of the things I value most is the lively discussion posts generate, and I don’t want to limit that. But these essays are time-consuming to research, write, and edit, and without reader support the project won’t be sustainable over the long term. For regular readers, subscribing is a way to help keep this going.

For the record: If you’re interested in a specific archive post for research or intellectual curiosity and the subscription fee is an obstacle, contact me and I’ll make sure you have access.
